A mizmaze is a type of turf maze or labyrinth that has a single path with no junctions or crossings. The word mizmaze is a reduplication and alteration of the word maze. Mizmazes are different from conventional mazes because they are not meant to confuse or challenge the walker, but rather to provide a meditative or ritualistic experience.
There are only two surviving historic turf mazes in England that are called mizmazes: one on St Catherine’s Hill near Winchester, and one near Breamore House in Hampshire. Both of them have unique designs and histories that are not fully understood.
