Burn Out

What’s something you do completely differently from how you were raised?

while the world keeps asking for more—

Once, the day began in chorus—
buses breathing, shoulders close,
boots and briefcases keeping time
with the city’s iron pulse.

We were carried by the crowd,
touched by chance and routine,
our lives a woven traffic
of errands, clocks, and shared weather.

Now each of us steers alone
through lanes of fractured light,
sealed in glass,
counting silence mile by mile.

The roads still move,
but something in them has gone slack.
The old rhythm broke
and left us holding the pieces:

the unpaid bills,
the small alarms,
the endless self to manage,
the weight of being one.

Loneliness has learned our names.
It rides beside us
without speaking,
while the world keeps asking for more—

more effort,
more speed,
more resilience
from a heart already running hot.

And still we go on,
flickering in our own compartments,
burning quietly
