Crimson Maple

The crimson maple leaves glisten and fall
Like rubies scattered on the grey-paved path
They brighten up the gloomy autumn's pall
And catch the eye of every passer-by

The vivid hues contrast the dimming sky
Where clouds of rain obscure the fading sun
The wind blows cold and makes the branches sigh
And shakes the leaves until they're all undone

But still they shine, these remnants of the spring
When life was fresh and green and full of hope
They cling to beauty, though they know it's fleeting
And soon they'll lie in piles upon the slope

Yet even then, they'll have a lasting grace
And paint the earth with their majestic face
