Fig tree

The fig tree stands in ancient splendor still,
Its branches laden with the purple fruit.
It witnessed Adam's fall and Eve's free will,
And offered them its leaves as a green suit.

The fig tree saw the birth of Dionysus,
The god of wine and ecstasy and dance.
It gave him shelter from the wrath of Titans,
And joined his festive rites with wild romance.

The fig tree heard the Buddha's words of wisdom,
As he meditated underneath its shade.
It felt his peace and calm and equanimity,
And shared his enlightenment with all who prayed.

The fig tree knows the secrets of the ages,
And bears them in its sap and in its seeds.
It offers us its gifts with generosity,
And teaches us to live in harmony.
