Hawkers

The dragonflies are on the wing
They dart and dash and hover and spin
They hunt for prey in the air and water
They don't care for borders or orders

The migrant hawker is a small and spotty one
It likes to fly in groups and have some fun
It came from far away to find a home
It doesn't mind the cold or the gloom

The blue emperor is a large and regal beast
It rules the pond with its azure crest
It chases off intruders with a flash of blue
It knows it's the king of the dragonfly crew

The darters are the speedy and agile kind
They can change direction in the blink of an eye
They catch their prey with a snap of their jaws
They are the masters of the dragonfly laws

The damselflies are the delicate and graceful ones
They fold their wings along their backs when they're done
They mate in tandem in a heart-shaped loop
They are the lovers of the dragonfly group

The dragonflies are on the wing
They celebrate life on the water margins
They are playful in the air and observant of their mates
They are the lords of the insect world
