Encounters

A toad on the path at dusk.
Hopping along with a gentle musk
He greets me with a croaky smile, And invites me to stay for a while.
Toad on the path
Hops and croaks in the twilight
A friendly encounter

A grass snake basking in the midday sun.
Slithering and sliding, having some fun
He shows me his scales of green and gold,
And tells me stories of old

Grass snake in the sun
Shines with scales of green and gold
A slinky storyteller

A pair of tawny owlets playing in a tall oak.
Flapping and chirping, making a joke
They wink at me with their big round eyes,
And share with me their wisdom and surprise.
Tawny owlets play
In the oak as moon sets down
A wise and witty pair
