Away

The stars

Drowning out the constant droning sound

Of distant traffic on this restless night,

A nightingale is piercing through the ground

With undulating melody so bright.

Amongst the young oaks and watery willows

A bramble thicket hides its feathered form.

Its song transcends the city's darkened pillows

And fills the air with passion and with warmth,

But soon the dawn will chase away the stars

And silence this enchanting serenade.

The nightingale will fly away so far

And leave behind a world that's dull and grey.

Yet I will keep its memory in my heart

And hope to hear its voice again, some part.
