“It is truly strange how long it takes to get to know oneself. I am now sixty two years old, yet just one moment ago I realised that I absolutely love lightly toasted bread. Simultaneously, I also realised that I loathe bread when it is heavily toasted. For almost sixty years, and quite unconsciously, I have been experiencing inner joy or total despair at my relationship with grilled bread.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein
I’m always learning new things about myself. After this week’s prompt about procrastination I delved a little deeper and learned a bit about how it can be connected with impulsiveness.
When I first learned about the world many things seemed not to change very quickly, now it appears that much change is happening all the time so learning new things has become a necessary habit. Learning about, and practicing, Mindfulness, Yoga and Qigong has smoothed the way.
“I don’t ask for the sights in front of me to change, only the depth of my seeing.”
Mary Oliver
Intrigued by the idea of MOOC’s I signed up for Learning how to Learn, and found it to be great course for tackling subjects you dont think you’re good at. Afterwards I enjoyed learning to code HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript, with lots of the variety of tools and frameworks that go with these languages.
Now I’m learning about blogging, the implications of artificial intelligence, and how I prefer my toast whilst navigating the calamities of climate change, mass extinction and covid.
If that’s not enough for us all to be concerned with, here’a short philosophical quote to ponder…
Bertrand Russell
“War does not determine who is right – only who is left.”

One response to “Learn”
I really like all the quotes you use, especially the first one. Realizing I’ll be learning all my life sometimes feels a little overwhelming, but for the most part, it’s cool that I’ll always have something to look forward to.
