Farewell to Smudge Pots
We used to light the smudge pots
To keep the midges away
We thought they were our best friends
On a summer's day
But then we learned the truth
About their harmful effects
They pollute the air and soil
And cause respiratory defects
They also don't work very well
The smoke is not enough
The midges still find their way
To bite our horses rough
So we decided to switch
To a better solution
A repellent spray called Smidge
That causes no pollution
It contains Picaridin
A synthetic compound
That blocks the insects' senses
And makes them turn around
It is safe for us and our horses
And lasts for eight long hours
It does not harm our clothes or gear
Or damage any flowers
We are happy with our choice
And we don't miss the old ways
We say farewell to smudge pots
And welcome Smidge always.

N.B. I used to use smudge pots on humid summer days to keep down the Culicoides midges that pestered the horses and can cause summer sweet itch and moon blindness. I haven’t tried Smidge, Bing Chat AI recommended it and it sounds like a useful product.
