Ode to the Soil: A Sonnet

Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

Beneath our feet, a world unseen resides,
A web of life, intricate, vast, and deep,
Where teeming hosts in secret realms abide,
Their quiet toil sustains what roots do reap.

The soil, a tapestry of form and hue,
With grains that cradle carbon’s fleeting breath,
Transforms decay to life, cycles renew,
Its alchemy defies the grasp of death.

Each particle a ledger, ancient lore,
Where time inscribes the pulse of earth's domain,
Its porous veins let water’s essence pour,
A lifeblood for the fields, the hills, the plain.

O soil, foundation of the earth's design,
In you the algorithm of life aligns.
The nature of soil
