Tedding

The old tractor creaks and groans as it's started up,
The engine sputters and coughs, but soon it purrs.
Heading out to the field, where the hay is ripe,
Then tedding, went by went.

The sun is shining brightly, and the birds are singing,
It's a perfect day to be working in the fields.
I can smell the hay in the air, and it's sweet,
Like honeysuckle on a summer's eve.

I work until the sun begins to set,
And then I head home, tired but satisfied.
I know that tomorrow, the rain might come,
And the hay will not make with no sun.

But for now, I enjoy the peace and quiet,
Of the hayfield on a summer's day.
It's a time to reflect on the past,
And to look forward to the future.
