Philadelphus

Glinting in the morning sun a cobweb.
Finely delicate orb spider blocks path,
Rainbows of sunlight rippling through threads.
Geometry of it astonishes.

Beyond, amongst a stand of willow herb
The pure white blossom of philadelphus droops,
Their branch weighed down by last nights stormy rain.
Scent reminisce of jasmine and  candy
Mocking orange blossom's sweet aroma.

Ptolemy II Philadelphus knew it,
Flowers fit to grace Ottoman Gardens,
A must for the Holy Roman Empire,
And Gerrards Herball calls it, "white pipe tree".

Then deep red roses peeking out from amongst
Woolly mint, its thorns hid in herbaceous.
Willow herb, roses and mock orange blossom
