Bats and raindrops

The sky is lit with flashes of bright light
That herald the arrival of the rain
The earth exhales a scent of fresh delight
As petrichor revives the thirsty plain

The newborn calves, oblivious to fear
Rejoice in their first taste of water's grace
They skip and play and frolic without care
And splash their hooves in every muddy place

Along the high hedged lane, the bats emerge
To hunt the moths that flutter in the dark
They dart and swoop with agile skill and urge
And catch their prey with echolocation's mark

This is the scene that fills my heart with joy A simple glimpse of nature's harmony
Cows in summer rain
English summer rain
