They rise before the dawn each day To mend the nets and pack the bait They watch their husbands sail away And pray they won't be home too late
They know the dangers of the sea The storms, the rocks, the hungry gulls They know how hard their lives can be But they don't complain, they don't bawl
They work as hard as any man They trade and process all the fish They feed their families as they can They do their duties as they wish
They also have a voice and say In how their fisheries are run They fight for rights and fairer pay They stand together as one
They are the backbone of their towns The unsung heroes of the coast They wear no jewels, they wear no crowns But they deserve our praise and toast
