A fungus that grows in the night. It’s said that witches used it well,
To grease their broomsticks before they fell.

But that’s not all this fungus does,
It’s also used to make a buzz. Witches’ ointment, made with care,
A hallucinogenic trip to share.

So if you see this fungus bright, Remember witches in the night. And if you’re feeling brave and bold,
Try some witches’ butter, hot or cold.

Witches’ butter is a common jelly fungus in the family Tremellaceae of the Agaricomycotina. It is most frequently found on dead but attached and on recently fallen branches, especially of angiosperms, as a parasite of wood decay fungi in the forest. It is also known as yellow brain, golden jelly fungus, yellow trembler.

Witches’ butter is considered edible fungi and can even be eaten raw. It is not flavorful but the texture can be like gummy bear candy. However, it is recommended to boil or steam it before eating.
