Duck egg

In the beginning, there was only water,
And from the water sprang the first life.
A bright blue duck egg amongst the rushes,
A sacred gift from the Mother of All.

The egg was warm and full of potential
It held within it the seeds of the world.
The sun and moon, the stars and planets,
The land and sea, the plants and animals.

But the egg was also fragile and lonely,
It longed for a companion to share its fate.
It called out to the water for a mate,
But the water was silent and indifferent.

Then one day, a storm came over the water,
The wind howled and the lightning flashed.
The waves rose and crashed against the rushes,
And the egg trembled with fear and awe.

The storm was angry and jealous of the egg,
It wanted to destroy it and take its place.
It struck it with a bolt of fire and thunder,
And cracked its shell in two halves.

But instead of death, there was creation,
From the broken shell emerged a pair of beings.
A male and a female, bright and beautiful.
They were the ancestors of all living things.

They looked at each other with wonder and love,
They thanked the Mother for their birth,
They named themselves Sky and Earth
And vowed to protect each other from harm.

They gathered the pieces of their shell,
And used them to create their home.
They made a dome of blue above them,
And a circle of green below them.

They filled their home with light and life,
They made suns to shine by day,
And moons to glow by night.
They made stars to guide their way.

They made lands to walk on
And seas to swim in,
They made plants to feed on
And animals to play with.

They were happy and content,
But they also wanted more.
They wanted children of their own,
To fill their home with joy.

So they embraced each other with passion,
And from their union came many offspring.
Some were like them, some were different,
But they loved them all equally.

They named them after their qualities.
Fire, Water, Air, Stone Wood, Metal,
Ice, Bone, Flower, Bird, Fish, Beast.
They taught them how to live in harmony.

How to respect each other and nature,
How to use their gifts wisely and kindly,
How to honor their parents and creator.
Thus began the story of our world.

From a bright blue duck egg amongst the rushes,
A sacred gift from the
Mother of All.
A symbol of hope and wonder.
