Reflecting, grandiose
glass-paned arch,
shuts out slender trees.
Clouds disperse.
Number 5 replaced
robin's breast.
Still outside he trills
in a hedge.
An oak tree's tawny
leaf outlined,
is stuck to rough pink
sugar card,
fixed with latex glue.
Wax crayons,
make colour stick men
come alive.
Sharp pencils scribble
wonky lines.
Follow straight line rules,
tell stories.
Mind pictures of old.
Sweets and stars,
tea biscuits, and milk
for rewards.
Make raffia mat,
rush mat, stretch.
Needles for knitting.
Bean bags, ropes,
elastic skipping.
Maths, english
saying your prayers,
and the grace.
Chickabiddies, chicks,
busy bees.
Stoolball and rounders,
playing fields.
Country dancing, tunes
from vinyl.
Then chairs, on desktops
full of books.
