Treasure

Somewhere in or around the small Icelandic town of Mosfellsbær lies buried a large hoard of silver coinage… treasure!

Egill Skallagrímsson, was the anti-hero of a millennium old saga, and, as the story goes, an Icelandic berserker, sorcerer and poet who waged a blood-feud lasting many years against Viking King Eiríkr Bloodaxe and his Queen (Mother of Kings) Gunnhildr.

On retiring he lived into his eighties on the old family farm on the west coast of Iceland where he remained a formidable character. He even got his servants to help bury his substantial treasure before killing them.

The Legend of Egil’s silver lives on in the popular culture of Iceland as stories and music that continue to be handed down through generations and woven together with new threads of artistry.
